About

Hello, my name is Sarah Howerd (Twitter handle: MsPolyethylene) and this is my blog.

Previously, in this life,  I’ve been a graphic designer specialising in illustrated non-fiction for the international market. This type of book design is often referred to as integrated book design as it involves layouts combining text and images, either photography or illustration. If you’d like to see what I did (it might not be there much longer because of a cost-cutting exercise!) then please take a look at my website: www.sideways14.co.uk

I currently work for the library service in the UK, a job which is both varied and fulfilling. I love meeting customers, recommending books, singing with small children and their parents at Rhymetime, working with my colleagues, and generally working in a place full of loads of books!

My blog subjects are likely to be a bit eclectic, I write about whatever is going on in my head and hope it might be of interest to others as well. As I’m pretty busy my blog is likely to be no more than one or two posts a month if I’m lucky. I also have relapsing-remitting MS so some of my time is taken up with related activities such as resting to regain a smudge of energy which can be a bit boring but – hey, it could be worse…

If you like what I write and/or my photographs it would be great if you could tell me what it was you liked in the comments then perhaps I can add similar content. Thank you for reading.

If you need to contact me please email: studio@sideways14.co.uk.

Please note that all images shown have been taken by me unless captioned otherwise or obviously by someone famous like Frida Kahlo, for example. They are my copyright so please don’t use them for commercial purposes without buying rights to use them from me first. If you are interested in using any of them then please contact the above email address.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment – my first since I started this blog a couple of weeks ago. I’ve just updated the Michael Kiwanuka post with some extra pics from The Green Man Festival after I saw your lovely Welsh photographs on your site so maybe you’d like to take another look later. I look forward to reading/viewing more of your entries.

  1. Hi Sarah, nice blog, didn’t actually realise it was yours until I finally read the ‘About’ section. I want to follow it but after I ‘liked’ an entry the ‘follow’ button disappeared. Very interesting and varied stuff, great photo’s too.

    1. Hi John, thanks for your comments – I’m following your blog too. Not sure what happened with the ‘follow’ button on mine. All I can say is try it again another time – hopefully it will work this time! Sarah
