Mac DeMarco not on stage – here he is up a stantion in the Far Out Tent…

…and back on stage again

There are two different types of performance I love – (well probably more than that but let’s run with it for a moment) really good sound, and superb stage presence. Mac DeMarco combines both – some spectacular stage antics, on and off stage with an exhilarating bit of stage diving (actually it wasn’t from the stage – he dived off one of the stantions supporting the Far Out Tent). Not to be done by the faint-hearted, or those with no faith in their followers. Don’t try this at home…

Another brilliant performance along with a strong musical basis came from an act I’ve not heard before and enjoyed so much I now have the most recent album The Death of John Mouse. The Green Man programme says “John Mouse has been described as a cross between a more aggressive Art Brut and a less funny Half Man Half Biscuit.” See my YouTube channel: MsPolyethylene, for a video – albeit a bit wobbly – of his brilliant Ilka Moor.  Listen to the album to hear the full sound – Ilka Moor isn’t a complete illustration of their sound (although it’s one of my favourites) – there are some brilliant narrative and poetic lyrics that John Davies spins out. John Mouse (no he’s not on stage – he does like to get into the audience and sometimes have a sit down – or a dance)

Jupiter-C   “Brooding minimalist pop odes to the more nightmarish aspects of modernity” It says here. Actually really liked the sound (well I am a Radiohead fan so brooding doesn’t phase me) along with the accompanying films of post-apocalyptic scenes.

Hot Sprockets

Hot Sprockets – this lot were brilliant rock’n’roll. “Think MC5 crossed with CSN&Y ” it says in the programme. That’s Crosby Stills Nash and Young – took me a while to work it out…

Policia – a favourite of Lauren Laverne – Policia’s sound is famously difficult to pin down.

Teleman playing the Walled Garden. Tom Ravenscroft describes them as “a joyous cacophony of noise”. You can see my really feeble quality video of them on YouTube at MsPolyethylene
