Long-awaited (especially for us Midlake fans) they were on the Mountain Stage on Friday night. Strangely they weren’t the headliners (assuming headliners are on last thing each evening), as they were followed by Kings of Convenience. We’ve wanted to see them for years and they didn’t disappoint – an amazing beautiful set – it was like a dream. They were performing hot on the heels of their split with front man Tim Smith in November 2012 (see Mojo feature). Their performance at Green Man was defiant – towards the end of the performance Eric Pulido said “We are still Midlake!”.
And they were.
Their recent single ‘Antiphon’ is epic (sorry, been listening to my almost-teenage son too much). I could just swim in it. You can hear it here on the Bella Union label website. The new album is out in November and can be pre-ordered from their website (go to Midlake.net). The album had to be re-recorded after the split with Tim – the previous one ditched, what I’d do to have both versions!
I’ve uploaded a video to my YouTube account: MsPolyethylene
We also saw loads of other bands, here’s a couple of those I managed to get a pic of.
