Due to the importance of communication centres throughout this century, the Television Centre has a number of Internal Shelter Areas to be used in times of threat.

The information graphics showing the centre look like a space station plan.

Mid-Century modern fittings included a centralised vacuum system where cleaners could plug in a vacuum cleaner hose directly into the wall skirting and the debris would go to a central collecting area. This is still evident throughout the corridors of the Doughnut – but not necessarily in working order. This kind of technology was common throughout the 20’s to the 60’s.

Fire stations are carefully numbered and numerous throughout the Big Doughnut. I like the panel above the hydrant – simple but clear labeling for safety information.
