These chipmunks live on a beach in the south-east part of the island of Fuerteventura – one of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. They seem to be a special feature of Fuerteventura – and are shown on postcards sold on the island. They are well fed by visitors and residents who bring peanuts and fruit for them, and they will cautiously eat food from your hands – careful though! Some of the kids try to catch them but they are pretty fast (not sure what the kids hope to gain from this except a nip on the fingers).
The beach is in the resort of Costa Calma, and the chipmunks live in the rocks and buildings of one of the water outlets on the beach (possibly waste water so more caution required for health reasons!).
