Mud & Music: Churn it up | Part one

Green Man 2012

As with many UK festivals this year, Green Man 2012 experienced quite a few downpours, not really a problem in this part of Wales, as I think they’re pretty used to it. The mud and occasional rain didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s spirits but did make moving between stages a bit slow, especially for wheelchair and Motability scooter users. I’ve been a bit crazy with the number of photos I’ve taken as usual so have edited it down ruthlessly – hopefully there will be style and content here for you. All images taken on my Olympus Pen EPL1 using either 14-42mm lens or 40-150mm lens, no flash.

6Music listeners can find plenty to please the ears and stimulate their music collection here, we just couldn’t see everyone we wanted to but here’s some of the acts we saw that really stood out: Feist, Metronomy, AltJ, Yann Tierson, Michael Kiwanuka (see post from last year on a tiny stage – this time he was on the Main stage), Toy, Trembling Bells, Beth Jeans Houghton and the Hooves of Destiny, Yngve, The Perch Creek Family Jug Band, Ghostpoet, tUnE-yArDs (why do they write their name like that?), Gabby Young and other Animals, King Porter Stomp, Dom James and his Dixie Ticklers, ALASKA. Also heard Mogwai, and Van Morrison, but cannot claim to have sat through the entire set!

We actually managed to get to the festival by Thursday afternoon so were able to see a few acts in the Thursday line-up. The photo above is of Gabby Young of Gabby Young and other Animals. Brilliant Circus Swing to start it off our festival – we hadn’t heard of them or Circus Swing before this day so that’s a good beginning to a festival for us – a bit Burlesque, a bit Jazz – very good. Lovely dress Gabby! See their website by clicking the link above. Many of the brilliant acts we saw in The Chai Wallah stage tent (always good to play in a tent when in Wales) are signed to the Diplomats of Sound agency.

That’s all from Thursday and Friday, tune in again for Saturday and Sunday’s edition. If there’s anyone you’re particularly interested in and would like to see more pics – I may have some more. Please note: all images are my copyright, not to be used commercially without my written permission. Thanks.
